With the launch of Gemini 3, Google unveils the new generation of its image creation model: Gemini 3 Pro Image, better known by its fizzy nickname Nano Banana Pro. This update marks a major step forward in AI image generation, thanks to the “deep thinking” technology built into the model.
In this article, discover all the new features, the limits and the real stakes behind this tool that promises to transform image creation!
Images up to 4K, more legible text and 14 reference images

Nano Banana Pro improves several key points that limited previous versions:
1. Resolution up to 4K
Generation can now reach 4,096 pixels, producing visuals suited to print, design or demanding professional projects.
2. Better text handling
One of the recurring flaws of AI models was their inability to produce clean, legible text.
With Nano Banana Pro, Google announces greater stability in typography generation, excellent news for creators of posters, mock-ups, thumbnails and more.
3. Up to 14 reference images
You can now upload up to 14 images to guide the creation.
This improves not only visual consistency, but also faithfulness to the characters, objects or style you want - a point much appreciated by fans of the first Nano Banana model.

How to use Nano Banana Pro in Gemini?
The model is already available in the Gemini app, accessible worldwide.
To use it:
- Open Gemini
- Select the Create images 🍌 option
- Choose the Thinking model (located to the right of the prompt window)
Simple and effective: you are ready to generate your first images.
The watermark disappears… but not really
You may have noticed that images created with Nano Banana Pro no longer carry the diamond-shaped watermark showing that they come from AI. In fact, this removal is only available to subscribers of the Ultra plan, billed at $250 per month.
But even without a visible watermark, Google now embeds SynthID, an invisible watermark that can - in theory - signal whether the image was generated by AI.
You just send the image to Gemini to check its origin.
👉 It remains to be seen how reliable this system will be in the real world…

Free… but with limits
Good news: Nano Banana Pro can still be used for free.
Less good news: you will quickly reach the free generation limit, after which you will automatically be switched to a less advanced model.
For intensive use, Google AI subscriptions start at $20/month.
The tool is also available via:
- the Gemini API
- Google AI Studio
- Flow
Looking back at the success of the original Nano Banana
The first model, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, caused a sensation when it was released.
Thanks to its impressive performance and Google’s fruity marketing campaigns, it quickly became hugely popular.
Users particularly appreciated:
- its character consistency, even during complex edits
- its ability to edit a photo without distorting people
- its speed
Even so, AI errors remained. Nano Banana Pro aims precisely to correct them with the power of Gemini 3.
A pivotal week for Google and Gemini
The release of Nano Banana Pro is part of a broader update: the roll-out of Gemini 3, which promises a smarter, more stable and less “sycophantic” experience for users.
Google seems determined to assert its position in the AI race, and Nano Banana Pro is a centrepiece of this strategy.
Conclusion
Nano Banana Pro represents a significant evolution of Google’s AI image model. With 4K generation, better text control, the use of multiple references and the integration of SynthID, the tool is getting closer and closer to a professional standard.
However, some key features - such as watermark removal - remain locked behind premium subscriptions.
It remains to be seen whether Google will manage to uphold its promise of transparency with its invisible watermark.
