En bref

Claude Skills is the Anthropic feature that allows your teams to stop re-explaining their context with each AI conversation. A Skill encodes your instructions once and for all — tone, format, business rules — and is automatically activated when the situation requires it. Result: your employees go from 15 messages to 2 to obtain a good output, save an average of 2 hours per week, and all produce the same quality. Available on Claude Pro, Team and Enterprise, creating a Skill takes 5 minutes and requires no technical skills.

The problem that Claude Skills solves

Claude is a language model — by default, He has no memory between conversations. Each new session starts from scratch. Your teams start explaining their context again and again: the sector, the tone, the rules, what to do and what to avoid.

The best users of Claude in business had all developed the same homemade solution: quick systems that were copied and pasted at the start of each conversation. A constant friction, time-consuming and impossible to standardize at the level of a team.

“15 messages to get the right result, and the next day, we start again.”

The problem is even more acute in companies: a salesperson must re-explain the positioning at each request, an HR reconfigures the tone for each email, a manager redefines the format of his reporting at each session. Each employee ends up with their own version — no one produces the same quality.

À retenir
Les Skills sont la réponse d'Anthropic à cette friction. Ils encodent vos instructions une fois pour toutes, puis se chargent automatiquement — sans que vous ayez à y penser.

What is a Skill Claude, exactly?

A Skill Claude is a permanent instruction that you give once, and that is activated automatically as soon as the situation requires it. Claude no longer needs the context to be explained to him again — He already knows.

Technically, a Skill is a folder containing a file Skill.md. Two parts only: The description, who tells Claude when to activate the Skill, and The instructions, who say what he should do. No code, no technical setup — any employee can create one.

Result: instead of 15 messages to achieve a good output, you have 2. And the output looks like your business from the first try.

Examples of Skills by profession

Here are the most impactful Skills that teams use on a daily basis.

HR teams

A “Job Description” skill that knows the tone of the company, the required information and the exact format — a 3-line brief is enough for a complete job description. An “Email candidate” skill that answers with the right level of warmth, the right formulations, not to mention the legal notices. An “Interview Report” skill that, based on a transcript, generates a structured summary with the key points and the recommendation.

Estimated gain: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours per day for an HR active in recruitment.

Managers

A “Team Brief” skill that knows the format, the expected level of detail, the information that is always present. A “Weekly Reporting” skill that knows how to present the KPIs, the tone expected by management. A “Decision Note” skill that transforms a meeting transcript into a structured document — decisions, actions, managers.

Estimated gain: 1 to 2 hours per week in preparation for meetings.

Sales teams

A “Business Proposal” skill that knows the offers, the formats, the way to present the benefits — a customer brief is enough. A “reminder email” skill with the right tone, the right length, and formulations that convert without ever being pushy. An “Appointment Preparation” Skill that generates a complete brief in 2 minutes from a prospect's name.

Estimated gain: 30 to 45 minutes per salesperson per day.

How to create your first skill in 5 minutes

1

Step 1 - Identify the task that deserves a skill

The simple rule: If you typed the same instructions more than 3 times in different conversations, it's a skill. The most common cases in business: reports, customer emails, customer emails, analysis reports, creative briefs, weekly reports.

2

Step 2 - Create the Skill with Claude

Open Claude and use the built-in skill-creator. Claude interviews you to understand what you want, then generates the file. It takes 5 minutes maximum.

3

Step 3 — Install the Skill

In Claude.ai: Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload. Upload your file. No code, no technical configuration.

4

Step 4 - Take care of the description

That is the most important part. She is the one who tells Claude when to activate the Skill.

LinkedIn Skill Description

X “Write LinkedIn posts”

V “Write LinkedIn posts with a first line without verbs, 3 paragraphs max, never hashtags in the body, always a question at the end of the post”

Always add a line “DO NOT use for...” to avoid triggering at the wrong time.

5

Step 5 - Test with 5 formulations

Test whether the Skill is triggered by various formulations: “Make me a LinkedIn post”, “Write a LinkedIn post on this subject”, “I need a post for tomorrow”. Then test 3 queries where it shouldn't steps fire up. If it goes off, your description is too broad.

The 3 most common mistakes

Create a skill that tries to do everything. One skill = one task. A “communication” skill that covers emails + LinkedIn + reports will always be less effective than 3 separate skills. Precision is what makes it powerful.

Never update the skill after a miss. Each mistake Claude makes is a sign of improvement, not a fatality. Add the missing rule, the Skill gets better with each use.

Write a description that is too vague. “Writing content” will trigger everything. Be surgical: the more precise the description, the more the Skill is triggered at the right time and produces the right result.

What changes for a team

The individual gain is real: between 30 minutes and 2 hours saved per week and per person on repetitive tasks. But the real change in business is standardization.

Everyone on the team produces the same quality, with the same tone, without needing to be trained in each tool. The employee who arrives tomorrow uses the same Skill as the one who has been there for a year — and immediately produces the same level of results.

Are Skills available on all Claude plans?

Skills are available on Claude Pro, Team and Enterprise. For corporate use, the Team plan is the minimum recommended — it offers the necessary confidentiality guarantees and allows the entire team to share the same Skills.

How many skills can you create?

No hard limits. In practice, the most effective teams have between 5 and 15 active skills — one for each major repetitive task. Beyond that, management becomes complex.

What is the difference between a Skill and a Project Claude?

A Skill encodes a way of doing things (format, tone, method). A Project encodes a context (customer file, project, knowledge base). The Skill says How Work, the Project says On what.

Do you have to be technical to create Skills?

No A Skill.md file is a simple text file. If you know how to write an email, you know how to create a skill. The real skill to develop: formulate precise instructions.
